BRITOWATA LAUNCHES PART TWO OF THE MARIA COLLECTION IN SOUTH AFRICA

On April 13, fashion duo BritoWata officially unveiled Part Two of the Maria Collection, continuing a powerful transcontinental story that began in Brazil and now finds its next expression in South Africa.

While Part One of the Maria Collection was manufactured, shot, and launched in Brazil, embracing the lush textures, sensual rhythms, and cultural vitality of the region, Part Two emerges from Cape Town, offering a fresh perspective rooted in Southern Hemisphere streetwear codes. This new chapter speaks to the Mediterranean-influenced climate and brings with it an elevated understanding of seasonal dressing, matched by a bold and thoughtful use of fabric and structure.

At the creative heart of BritoWata is Lisolomzi Wata, South African designer and co-founder, born in eQonce, Eastern Cape. Currently based between Cape Town and Rio de Janeiro, Liso is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans music, fashion, and performance. Deeply inspired by his Xhosa heritage, he weaves influences from across South African and broader African tribal identities into modern silhouettes. His designs are equally shaped by global elements, including kimono-style outerwear, Japanese farmer vests, and Chinese button detailing—reframed through an African lens.

“We take tribal garments—symbols that, in other contexts, have been used to divide us—and reimagine them as threads that unite us, like ether,” says Wata.

Alongside him is Carol Brito, Brazilian stylist, co-founder, and human capital specialist. Based in Rio de Janeiro and Cape Town, Carol continues to work actively in HR, with a focus on people empowerment, diversity and inclusion, talent development, and companies growth. Her work in the corporate world complements her creative vision, as she bridges fashion and purpose to build people-centered narratives through style.

“Fashion became a powerful ally — a tool for expression, identity, and connection with the world,” Carol shares. “At BritoWata, every piece is born with purpose.”

Carol’s mission is to help individuals discover and own their voice—stylistically and professionally—while championing authentic self-expression and meaningful representation. As a couple, Carol and Liso split their year between Africa and South America, ensuring the brand stays deeply grounded in both continents' creative and spiritual energy.

The Maria Collection Part Two reflects all of this. It bridges continents and ideologies, blending streetwear and tradition, memory and innovation, and features unisex, male, and female silhouettes ranging from sculptural cuts to fluid everyday pieces. The campaign visuals, shot in Cape Town, highlight this fusion: bold embroidery, structured denim, vibrant knits, and modern tailoring.

Further grounding the collection is BritoWata’s collaboration with culture-driven artists from the Xhosa and Khoi communities of South Africa and the Amazonian regions of Brazil. These partnerships give life to limited-edition graphic tees and prints, honoring indigenous narratives and showcasing the beauty of rooted creativity across continents.
